President of FWEAP visited temporary accommodation facility for Ukrainian Evacuees

FWEAP is commissioned by the Government of Japan to support, through its subsidiary body; the RHQ, Ukrainian evacuees or displaced persons without personal guarantor.

After arriving in Japan, these Ukrainians are privileged to stay in a temporary accommodation facility secured by the Foundation as part of their commissioned work, and be provided with meals, living expenses etc. The Foundation also carries out personal interviews with evacuees in order to comprehend individual health conditions, thereby administer detailed health management, including eventually leading up to medical checkups and hospital visits.

In addition, we assist them for various administrative procedures such as changing their residential status (in most cases, to 1 year of designated activities), residential registration, applying for national health insurance, opening a bank account, etc.  We offer Japanese language courses at the facility, providing opportunities for those who wish to take Japanese language lessons.

On Friday July 8, 2022, Professor FUJIWARA Massahiro, President of the Foundation, and Mr. Kawaue Junichi, Secretary-General visited the temporary accommodation facility for Ukrainians. They visited the Japanese language classes, hearing rooms, guest rooms, dining venues, etc.  They talked directly with Ukrainian evacuees in that opportunity.

At the meeting, a Ukrainian evacuee told them, "I am able to experience Japanese culture and the kindness of the Japanese people, which makes me feel calm." Another one expressed "I can speak Japanese, so I want to help my fellow refugees as an interpreter."

FWEAP will continue to be committed to support Ukrainians so that they  can stay in Japan with peace of mind.
