The Foundation for the Welfare and Education of the Asian People (FWEAP) assisted refugees and their people of concern who are in need affected by the spread of the COVID-19 twice in 2020 and 2021 by providing food and daily necessities through financial support given to private support groups and self-help groups in settled refugee communities.
The first assistance provided
The first assistance was provided from May to September 2020. The FWEAP received 12 applications, and through strict examinations by the FWEAP secretariat and some members of the board of directors, seven applications from six groups were approved. Items such as rice, dried noodles, canned foods, seasonings, masks, and rubbing alcohol were provided free to approximately 1,500 people in 884 households mainly in the Vietnamese, Laotian, Cambodian, and Myanmar refugee communities. The total amount of assistance was JPY 11,294,400.

The FWEAP announced to offer another emergency food support program in the end of April, and it approved applications from the following nine groups. The total assistance amount was JPY 11,691,200, and support would be provided to 2,785 people as of 20th August 2021. Food and other items were distributed by each group from June.
